Who is the team’s career leader in interceptions?

Defensive backs are generally the guys that get interceptions and the Broncos have had some incredible defensive backs over the years.

That list includes Champ Bailey, Steve Atwater, Dennis Smith and Chris Harris, but none of them is the team’s all-time leader in picks.

Gonsoulin finished his career with a respectable 43 interceptions, but Steve Foley had one more. Foley is the team’s all-time leader with 44 interceptions.

Drafted in the eighth round of the 1975 draft out of Tulane, Foley spent his entire 11-year career with the Broncos after playing for the Jacksonville Express of the World Football League for one season.

He was part of the Orange Crush defense and started in the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl XII.

Foley was just a consistent player. He never had more than six interceptions in a season, but he was a true ballhawk, always making plays around the football.

He is largely forgotten in Broncos lore but he holds a record that could stand for quite some time. After all, Harris spent nine seasons with the team and didn’t even get halfway to Foley’s career total.
