Could the Denver Broncos look north of the border for some CFL imports in 2020?

As the Denver Broncos and the rest of the NFL are gearing up for a full fall season, the CFL is unfortunately not going to be able to make theirs happen.

Of course, the entire world is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, but the CFL is saying that the reason they can’t pull off a fall season is a financial issue.

With no CFL in the fall, the players will obviously not be getting paid to play. The NFL is not typically lining up for shots at CFL guys as many of the athletes in the CFL are guys who have previously proven they cannot make it in the NFL.

With that said, the current situation for everyone involved could prompt some creativity on the NFL’s part. Typically, poaching players from the CFL ranks requires the team that ‘owns’ a player’s rights to first release them from their contract.

That, coupled with the fact that even some of the CFL’s most coveted players don’t wind up making it in the NFL anyway, don’t lead to a ton of success stories.

With that said, there are certainly the Cameron Wake types of stories that give NFL teams hope.

Even if guys are only brought in as role players or for training camp shots in 2020, there might be some intriguing options for the Broncos to explore with CFL players being released from their contracts to pursue some work in the fall.

Let’s take a look through some of the guys who might make sense for the Broncos to look at.
