Denver Broncos tight end Austin Fort suffered another injury that will require him to miss a couple of weeks.
During the 2019 preseason, the Denver Broncos had some players come onto the scene and stand out. One of those players was tight end Austin Fort.
Fort caught three passes for 28 yards in the preseason before suffering a season-ending injury, and now he, unfortunately, has to add another injury to the list.
Fort will miss several weeks after having a procedure on his knee. It’s a tough blow for Fort, who would have liked to shine as much as possible, potentially for other teams.
The Broncos’ locks to make the roster at the tight end position are Noah Fant, Albert Okwuegbunam, and Nick Vannett (who signed a two-year deal with the team this offseason). Jake Butt, if healthy, is also considered to be a lock.
The Broncos also have Andrew Beck, who played both at the tight end position and fullback under Rich Scangarello last season.
All of a sudden, a position that was not strong ultimately has become strong this offseason and that, along with his injury, is what could hurt Fort this time around.
Despite this setback, however, there is still a chance that the Broncos can and will keep Fort around if they believe he can make an impact later down the road.
The team released tight end Jeff Heuerman this offseason due to a number of things including injury concerns and the crowded tight end room. Unfortunately, there is not room for everybody to make the team.
With all of the changes that have occurred this offseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic, things are going to be quite different, including players not getting the chance to shine during the preseason. Hopefully, Fort will come back strong following his procedure.
