Time of Possession
Time of possession is going to be especially important for the Denver Broncos against tough teams such who have explosive offenses such as the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, and potentially the Atlanta Falcons.
Denver finished the season averaging 29:20 minutes possessing the football per game in 2019. That was good for 21st in the league.
The combination of Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon figure to help the Broncos drain clock while getting downfield through the passing game. This offense, on paper, is no joke. There are so many weapons that it would be disappointing if they weren’t successful in 2020.
Of course, it hurts that there is no preseason this year. But training camp is still going on and ball security is definitely something the team is going to be working on as they get closer to week one of the season.
The Broncos ran the football 409 times in 2019 which ranked 14th. They gained 1,662 yards on the ground and 22nd in rushing touchdowns with 11.
Fumbles were not a big issue for the Broncos in the run game in 2019. They finished best in the league with just two. It is going to be crucial to continue that trend.
