Defensive Line

Prediction: The depth will quickly prove to be stunning

One of the primary reasons the Denver Broncos were able to get to and win the Super Bowl in the 2015 season? Their defensive line was stacked.

As a matter of fact, the Broncos’ second unit of Antonio Smith, Vance Walker, and Darius Kilgo felt like it could have been a starting unit for a number of NFL teams that year.

The 2020 group could be even better on paper.

This year’s Denver defensive line is led by veteran Jurrell Casey, one of the quickest and most versatile defensive linemen in the NFL. He replaces Derek Wolfe as the veteran star in the group, while Shelby Harris and Mike Purcell both came back on one-year contracts.

The Broncos also have a trio of day two draft picks — DeMarcus Walker, Dre’Mont Jones, and McTelvin Agim — providing depth behind their starters, as well as free agent pickup Christian Covington providing another depth piece at the back end of the rotation.

This might be the deepest defensive line group the Broncos have had in John Elway’s time as GM.

I think early on in training camp, that depth on the defensive line is going to prove to be pretty stunning in terms of how these guys work compared to the second offensive line.
