Prediction: Garett Bolles, Elijah Wilkinson will show improvement in year two with Mike Munchak

Even before Ja’Wuan James decided to opt-out for the 2020 season, the Broncos had been considering Elijah Wilkinson for a starting offensive tackle position.

Now, both Garett Bolles and Wilkinson seem to be unquestioned starting tackles for the Broncos heading into their fourth NFL seasons, Bolles as a former first-round pick and Wilkinson as an undrafted free agent.

This will be the first time in either Bolles’ or Wilkinson’s career that either player will enter training camp for a second consecutive season with the same offensive line coach. That coach happens to be one of the most renowned in the NFL — Mike Munchak.

Munchak’s teaching has helped many offensive linemen develop into longtime starters through the years, and both Bolles and Wilkinson hope to be no different. Wilkinson was sort of the on-call tackle for the Broncos last year after starting some in 2018 as a guard.

The Broncos will also open the 2020 season with the same bookend tackles they finished the previous season with for the first time in forever.

Continuity is not always the best thing for everyone but in the case of both Bolles and Wilkinson, the consistency is probably welcomed and both players were raw enough in the early stages of their career to believe that the best is yet ahead of both of them.
