Prediction: Alijah Holder seizes a role as the fourth safety

The Denver Broncos have an interesting group of defensive backs right now, and the safety position group is worth monitoring closely throughout camp.

Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson make the best starting duo of safeties in the NFL, but what do the Broncos have behind them?

Right now, the top backup is Trey Marshall, a former undrafted player the team really likes.

Beyond Marshall? It’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen, or even if the Broncos will decide to keep three safeties active and have someone on-call on the practice squad while keeping seven cornerbacks, but that fourth safety spot could ultimately go to Alijah Holder.

Holder was one of the Broncos’ most expensive UDFAs in 2019, and he wound up getting a few regular season snaps after working on the practice squad. Going through a position change from cornerback last season, Holder had to learn on the fly and make adjustments, but he could ultimately see the field in 2020 as a reserve and one of the team’s top special teams players.
