Denver Broncos get Derrek Tuszka under contract
The Denver Broncos have started signing their draft picks, including seventh-round pick Derrek Tuszka.
Finally, the Denver Broncos have started to get some signatures on contract papers by their rookie draft picks. One of those picks that have signed is Derrek Tuszka, who played on the defensive line at North Dakota State.
Tuszka’s contract reportedly includes over $3.3 million.
Other players who have signed as of this article include tight end Albert Okwuegbunam and cornerback Michael Ojemudia.
Even as a seventh-round pick, Tuszka can definitely still see the field as a rookie (provided that he makes the team after final roster cuts. Tuszka will play outside linebacker in Denver’s defense and even though the team has Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, Vic Fangio’s defense makes sure that there are different player combinations on the field.
Due to him moving to outside linebacker, Tuszka (6’4”, 251 lbs) has been said to need to hit the weight room in order to make the position change easier.
The selection of Tuszka in the 2020 NFL Draft was very exciting to me as a fan of the NDSU Bison. Tuszka is a player who has some NFL-quality traits, including toughness, smarts, and ability to play some hard-nosed football. As a defensive end, he laid some pretty nasty hits on quarterbacks at the college level.
Sadly, those hits are not allowed at the next level. But Tuszka will get to watch Miller and Chubb first-hand and be able to learn some ways to adapt.
This is a great opportunity for Derrek Tuszka
Being drafted by the Broncos was a great opportunity for Tuszka in my opinion. As a seventh-round pick, his chances of being successful don’t look great, unless you turn on the film and see what he is capable of. All of that “he’s a late-round pick. He’ll never make it” talk is just nonsense.
It doesn’t matter where you start. It’s where you end up. I cannot wait to see his progress throughout his time in the league—hopefully, a long time with the Broncos.
