Denver Broncos: Expectations for every rookie in 2020
KJ Hamler, WR
2020 expectation: WR3 by week 8 or 9
Although everyone has high hopes for first-round pick Jerry Jeudy, and rightly so, there are also very high expectations for second-round pick KJ Hamler.
Hamler was one of the fastest players in the 2020 NFL Draft class, and he brings an element of speed to Denver’s offense that has been sorely lacking.
As a slot player, Hamler is a mismatch because very few defensive backs have the quickness and speed to keep up with him.
Just ask future first-round pick Shaun Wade about that.
Hamler is such a dynamic presence, it wouldn’t surprise me if he started out as the WR4 or WR5, but by the midway point of the season, I expect him to have proven he deserves to be on the field for the majority of the offensive snaps.
It will also be interesting to see if the Broncos use Hamler as a return specialist. If he does open the season as the WR4 or WR5, I think it’s more likely Hamler is returning kicks and/or punts to open the season as well, as much as the Broncos were pleased with Diontae Spencer last year.
If Hamler is going to achieve WR3 status, he’s going to have to take the jobs of either Tim Patrick, DaeSean Hamilton, or both.
