Former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning may have retired four years ago, but he still likes to take a jab at a former opponent.

When Peyton Manning joined the Denver Broncos in 2012, Broncos fans who learned to dislike him due to being a nuisance quickly learned to love and appreciate him.

To nobody’s surprise, Manning has continued to do that even after retiring four years ago.

As you know, the NFL is trying to figure out a plan to proceed with a 2020 season. One of the things talked about is the possibility of playing games with no fans in attendance.

Manning was asked by a Denver Nuggets player for his thoughts on that possibility and, as the comic you know, Manning decided it was a good time to take a shot at the Broncos’ rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Just ask somebody on the Chargers,” Manning said.

Let’s put that into perspective. Manning was absolutely right. The Chargers, who are moving to a new stadium in 2020, had the lowest average attendance in each of the last three years.

2017: 25,335 fans per game (32nd) … 31st: Bengals at 53,275 fans per game.
2018: 32,768 fans per game (32nd) … 31st: Bengals at 50,753 fans per game.
2019: 31,750 fans per game (32nd) … 31st: Bengals at 47,179 fans per game.

Manning had the privilege of playing among passionate Broncos fans for five seasons. Over his Broncos career, Manning helped bring fans to home games.

2012: 76,632 (5th); Chargers: 56,703 (30th)
2013: 76,872 (6th); Chargers: 64,205 (22nd)
2014: 76,939 (6th); Chargers: 65,432 (21st)
2015: 76,922 (5th); Chargers: 66,772 (19th)

But those numbers have drastically changed over the last couple of years. The Chargers had been playing in a temporary stadium while their next permanent home was being built.

That stadium held the lowest number of fans.

The Chargers in 2018 ranked last in attendance with an average of 32,768 per game. In 2019, that number dipped to 31,759 per game.

Two months ago, Broncos running back Melvin Gordon, who played for the Chargers, took a shot at his former team because of the same reasons.

Broncos fans love to take over Chargers games

It is quite known that Broncos fans love to travel to Los Angeles when the Broncos are facing the Chargers. We often see a sea of orange during that matchup, not only in Denver but on the Chargers’ home field.

It’s quite fun and funny to see this take place. Hopefully, Drew Lock and the Broncos will be able to have that same thing happen for the next 15 years.
