Alexander Johnson

2020 salary: $750,000

One of the best stories from Denver’s 7-9 2019 season was the play of Alexander Johnson, who stepped in for an ineffective Josey Jewell and never looked back.

Johnson’s professional career was on the ropes when he was dismissed from the University of Tennessee after sexual assault allegations were made against him. He was eventually acquitted of all charges. but his playing career was in question after his invite to the scouting combine was rescinded.

At one time, Johnson had as high as a third-round grade on him by some draft experts. It was the Broncos who finally decided to give him a shot long after the draft process had ended. Hopes were not high that he would even make the team, but the talent was clearly there.

After spending his rookie season on the practice squad, Johnson made the most of the shot he was given in 2019 and looked like a natural fit in Vic Fangio’s scheme. Another big season could net him a nice deal, but for 2020, the Broncos have him on the books at a great value.
