Kyle Orton (2009-11)

After many years, Pat Bowlen and the Denver Broncos made a tough decision to fire longtime coach Mike Shanahan. Who would end up replacing him? Broncos Country might know him as mini hoodie. Josh McDaniels would make his impact known right away, trying to trade for Matt Cassel. That upset Jay Cutler and after many battles, the Broncos traded Cutler to the Bears for Kyle Orton.

It started okay, but ended up being a huge oof. Orton led the Broncos to a 6-0 start in McDaniels’ rookie year as coach. But the Broncos would lose eight of 10 the rest of the way. He would throw 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions that year. 2010 saw him record 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. But the team as a unit was horrible and he only recorded three wins that year.

2011 was the final straw. With Broncos Country knocking down the door for Tim Tebow, Kyle Orton would be benched by John Fox after a 1-4 start and facing a 23-10 deficit at halftime against the Chargers.

Orton had some great numbers individually. But his 12-21 record as a starter was not going to cut it.
