The Denver Broncos have a few Hall of Fame running backs and their fair share of underrated backs.

All throughout their history the Denver Broncos have had great running backs. Two of them are enshrined in Canton or football royalty. Others put themselves in the NFL’s category of some of the most underrated or under-appreciated running backs in the league. It is a shame players like Terrell Davis and Floyd Little do not force people to look deeper at the crop of running backs to come through the system.

The big prevailing theme with many of these players is the word “system”. Mike Shanahan’s run scheme is well documented in the NFL circles to where anyone inserted into the lineup at halfback would be successful. However, this still seems like a stereotype that can cause fans and media to overlook the fact players were still great in the Shanahan era.

Another is not forgetting the rich history of Denver Broncos players to come through the Mile High City. There will be running backs left off this list, but it is not to disrespect their legacy with the team. All the players who come through this system have helped shaped the franchise to where they are now.

Halfbacks like Otis Armstrong were notable in their time with the Denver Broncos. Armstrong racked up a ton of yardage to place him in the top five rushing yards list, but he, unfortunately, did make it to this ranking.

Knowshon Moreno is another player in Broncos history who finds himself in the category of underrated. Moreno racked up 3,400+ rushing yards and 1,400+ receiving yards with the team. He also did not make the top five list but serves his place in team history being a part of one of the best offenses NFL has ever seen.

Without further ado, here are the top five backs in Denver Broncos’ history.
