Denver Broncos: A lost season would be crushing for key veterans
There may not be an NFL season in 2020 and that would especially suck for the older players on the Denver Broncos.
With COVID-19 generating a lot of talk around the world, including the NFL universe, there is a chance of the 2020 NFL season not happening. That would be unfortunate news for everybody, but we need to make sure things are safe before proceeding. As for the Denver Broncos, there are some key players that would suffer from a lost season.
The Broncos have just four players who are 30-years old or older with none hitting that mark during the season. Those four players, in particular, will suffer
It’s the simple fact that just because, if there is no season, that still does not mean that players will not age. They will.
Broncos players 30 and over
Those four players on the wrong side of 30 are:
- Von Miller
- Jurrell Casey
- Kareem Jackson
- Sam Martin
All four players are starters and have had their fair share of getting beaten up over the years, and Miller even went through the troubles of COVID-19. So did Jackson.
The three defenders on the list are crucial pieces to the defense and hopefully, they are going to be around a long time.
We also know that the NFL is allowing players to opt out of the 2020 season if it does proceed with playing games. That poses the possibility of any players sitting out the 2020 season even if there are games to be played.
A lost season would also hurt players who already have a shortened career span such as Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon, who are running backs.
The only “positive” thing if the players mentioned above sit out the 2020 season is that it would give their backups some very important experience for the future.
The fact is that football is going to eventually resume. We just don’t know if that is going to be on time or to what extent. But the Broncos need all of their starters to be a proper successful team.
Whether or not that happens remains to be seen.
