Week 7: 2016 vs. Houston Texans
While many of the games on this schedule involve tremendous quarterback play, this game was all about the Denver Broncos’ defense.
The Broncos were welcoming home Brock Osweiler, who had signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Houston Texans after spurning Denver in the 2016 offseason.
The torch was supposed to be passed on to Osweiler when Peyton Manning left Denver, but Osweiler didn’t care for the way he was benched late in the 2015 season, and he bolted for Houston without even an in-person meeting.
Needless to say, the vaunted Denver defense was thrilled to have him over for a prime time game.
Osweiler made sure he got the ball out quickly most of the game. He was sacked just one time but he was hit five times, and the Broncos’ secondary put on a vintage performance.
Osweiler met the full wrath of the No Fly Zone, completing just 22 of his 41 pass attempts, seven of which were batted down by the Broncos’ defense.
Despite converting only 3-of-11 third-down attempts offensively, the Broncos dominated Osweiler and the Texans 27-9 to improve to 5-2 on the season.
