AFC Championship: 2015 vs. New England Patriots

Simply put, this was one of the best displays of pass-rushing I have ever seen in an NFL game, and I don’t know that it will ever be paralleled.

Peyton Manning and the offense did their job, giving the defense a 14-6 lead to work with early on in this one, and fate stepped in a little bit. The Patriots missed an extra point early in the game which loomed large later on…

The Broncos hit Tom Brady, who is known for avoiding pressure and not taking a lot of hits, a whopping 17 times in this game. They sacked him four times. They picked him off twice.

The defense for Denver was swarming all game, but as was typical, you could never count Brady out of a game.

He had the Patriots within a two-point conversion away from tying the game late in the fourth quarter, but the Broncos’ defense (and pass rush) stepped up again on that two-point play, which was only necessary because of the missed extra point earlier in the game.

Although the score of this game was extremely close, this was a dominant performance by Denver’s front seven, which got the Patriots’ offensive line coach fired before Bill Belichick called Dante Scarneccia out of retirement.

Aside from Super Bowl 50, this is the signature game of what I believe to be the best defense to ever take an NFL field.
