Darqueze Dennard, CB
At this particular point in time, it’s reasonable to assume that the Broncos are confident in the cornerback group they have in place, despite its youth.
The projected CB1 is trade acquisition AJ Bouye from the Jacksonville Jaguars, a longtime target of Vic Fangio’s.
The projected CB2 is 2019 free agent pickup Bryce Callahan, who is 100 percent healthy this offseason and ready for camp.
Beyond those two guys, this is not a veteran-laden group for the Broncos whatsoever. The Broncos used a third-round pick this year on Iowa’s Michael Ojemudia, and it would be surprising at this point if he wasn’t starting year one.
They also have young players like Isaac Yiadom, Duke Dawson, and Davontae Harris, and all of those guys have potential to be starters in the league as well.
Dennard is a nickel specialist and a former first-round pick whose free agent deal with the Jaguars earlier this offseason fell through.
The numbers game with the Broncos right now is hard to sift through and they need to figure out Justin Simmons’ contract before making any other major moves in the secondary, but Dennard is a player who could help the defense as a nickel cornerback and allow the team to bring along Ojemudia slowly.
