The NFL has decided to get rid of two preseason games for the Denver Broncos and other teams.
Broncos Country and the rest of the NFL will have to wait at least one more week before preseason action can kick off, if the season still plans to happen.
According to a report from Pro Football Talk, the NFL has made the decision to reduce the number of preseason games for all 32 NFL teams from four to two for the 2020 season.
With the COVID-19 pandemic going on, there has not been much practice sessions. Pro Football Talk also ties in traveling with a lot of players could add on the risk of the virus infecting at least one player, which would impact the entire team.
The games that have been impacted by the sudden cancellation will be the first and last preseason games. And if you are following along at home, that means the home contest against the San Francisco 49ers and the road contest against the Arizona Cardinals will be scrapped for the Denver Broncos.
In order to return to life normally, the move does make sense. Usually, preseason games allow fans to see the new players and to get some experience as the teams determine the players that make the final roster. Reducing it to two games means many things.
Players looking to make the roster will have fewer chances to prove themselves.
I look at it like this, the two preseason games will likely be all dress rehearsal games. Those that are on the outside looking in and those on the bubble will really need to showcase their efforts. The efforts might have to be doubled or tripled in practice sessions.
It is a shame that the preseason has been cut down, but perhaps it is for the best if there is any chance of football happening in 2020.
