Elijah Wilkinson – Left tackle

The Broncos seem to like Elijah Wilkinson quite a bit.

Wilkinson was an undrafted free agent who has now started games for this team at both right guard and right tackle in relief of injured starters.

Heading into his fourth season with the team, Wilkinson is going to be given a chance to compete at the left tackle spot with Garett Bolles.

How much of a ‘competition’ will that be? That’s a great question. Nobody really seems to think Wilkinson is going to win the job but it’s interesting that the Broncos chose him over the 2020 free agent class or 2020 NFL Draft class to compete with Bolles.

I think the Broncos created a good situation here, at least in the short term.

The worst-case scenario is that both players totally bomb when given opportunities. A ‘win’ for the Broncos would be Garett Bolles pushing himself and taking a step forward with this competition. Another ‘win’ for the Broncos would be Wilkinson actually playing well enough to win the job.

Although the possibility exists that neither player works out, there’s a possibility of the Broncos’ former first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft being beaten out by Wilkinson, an undrafted player from that same class.
