Juwann Winfree – WR4 or WR5

The Broncos traded up in the 2019 NFL Draft (in the sixth round) to select Colorado wide receiver Juwann Winfree.

Winfree wasn’t really on the radar of many NFL Draft analysts because his career at Colorado had been limited with injuries. He basically took a redshirt in year one with the Denver Broncos, playing in three games with just 14 offensive snaps and 49 special teams snaps.

There was some pretty substantial hype building for Winfree during last year’s training camp, where he made a lot of big plays and showed he belonged when he was out there running with the first team.

The Broncos’ wide receiver room is crowded this offseason with players, and it will be impossible to find spots for everybody.

We know that Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler are making the squad. Beyond those guys, the competition should be fairly open depending on which players stand out and can help the team the most.

Winfree has the potential to play in the slot with his route quickness, but can he beat a player like DaeSean Hamilton or Tim Patrick?

At this point in time, that would seem like a big surprise, but that’s part of why he’s being mentioned here. Sometimes this job-stealing comes as a surprise to us all.
