Quarterback: Riley Neal

The very nature of this season could mean NFL teams keep three quarterbacks instead of just two, which is typically preferred unless you have three really good ones or someone who is hurt to start the season.

There’s no certainty the Broncos will keep three quarterbacks anyway, but right now the battle for QB3 is going to be between a pair of young former undrafted free agents in Brett Rypien and Riley Neal.

Neal will have to steal the job from Rypien, who at one point was elevated to the active roster last season as Brandon Allen’s backup.

The big thing with Rypien is, he was picked up when the Broncos had a different offensive staff in place. Was it the coaching staff that wanted him or the front office?

The answer to that question will be big in determining his future with the team, and Rypien will have to prove he can run the Pat Shurmur offense better than Neal, who hasn’t had quite as much time to digest Shurmur’s offense as Rypien has, but they will both have the same time on task on the field come time for training camp.
