Cam Newton signing with the Patriots impacts the Broncos week five matchup in 2020.
The Denver Broncos will get to see Cam Newton after all during the 2020 season.
On Sunday night, the New England Patriots made an intriguing post-NFL Draft decision and signed the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player to a one year contract. The move made sense with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay and Jarrett Stidham entering the upcoming season getting to play with little experience.
One of the teams that Cam Newton could potentially face in 2020 is the team that prevented his exceptional season ending with a title, the Denver Broncos. While with the Panthers, Newton faced Denver in Super Bowl 50. It was in that game that he fell victim to a Broncos defense that was on a mission.
Having only lost one game all year, it appeared that Newton was well on his way to getting a title. Broncos Country was happy that did not happen. The upcoming meeting in week five will be Newton’s fourth attempt to get a win against the Broncos.
The matchup between the Broncos and Patriots has now been impacted by the Newton signing.
When the schedule was released, the Broncos and Patriots were set to face each other in week five. The quarterback battle was set to be Drew Lock vs. Jarrett Stidham. Having gained some regular season experience last year, it would easily be advantage Lock.
Now the quarterback battle could be Drew Lock vs. Cam Newton. It all hinges on if Newton can win the starting job from Stidham. However, there is no doubt that quarterback battle could prove interesting.
Cam Newton is 0-3 against the Broncos in his career. Depending on what his career goes after 2020, this could be the last chance he has to exact his revenge. But with Von Miller awaiting him on the other side of the football, it might not be an easy task.
Week five between the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots just became a lot more entertaining on paper.
