Denver Broncos: FanSided picks Bradley Chubb as team’s MVP candidate

Will Denver Broncos pass rusher Bradley Chubb be a reasonable candidate for winning the MVP award?

Bradley Chubb was lost in the early weeks of the 2019 season to a torn ACL. The Denver Broncos struggled to get a sack for the first three weeks of the 2019 season. Yes, that’s how long it took for them to register their first sack.

Chubb was one of four Broncos defenders to sack Jaguars quarterback Garner Minshew in week four.

In his rookie season, he dominated with a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, recording 12 sacks on the season, as well as 60 tackles and 21 quarterback hits.

But will Chubb’s third NFL season be as dominant—or more—than his rookie season? Will the Broncos’ fifth-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft provide an MVP-type season for the Broncos?

FanSided’s Rucker Haringey thinks so.

"Drew Lock might be the guy the Broncos need to take the largest leap on 2020, but he’s not their most likely MVP candidate. The honor goes to Chubb who has already established himself as one of the most dominant edge rushers in the game.Chubb will need some help from his teammates to win the award. The Broncos will likely need to unseat the Chiefs atop the division for Chubb to make a credible case. That and 20 sacks could earn Chubb enough love to be the league’s MVP."

To me, if there was going to be a player on the Broncos that would win the MVP award in the 2020 season, it would come down to safety Justin Simmons or Drew Lock.

For Chubb to come away with the MVP award, he would have to do more than what is expected of him. Do I think he can? Yes. However, I feel as if Chubb would be more in line to win the Comeback Player of the Year award.

Cameron Parker of Predominantly Orange thinks that if Chubb were to win the Comeback Player of the Year award, he would need to register at least 16 sacks.

I do wonder how Chubb will adapt to Vic Fangio’s defense over the course of a full season. Even Von Miller did not put up MVP-type numbers in a full first season in Fangio’s defense.

There is no question that Fangio’s defense and the team’s defenders can be dominant. I just do not know if it will translate to Chubb becoming an MVP. Not yet.
