Quarterback

The quarterback position has been a problem for the Denver Broncos ever since the retirement of Peyton Manning. But they finally found what they hope is their franchise guy.

Drew Lock was never supposed to step on the field for the Broncos as a rookie but due to poor play by Joe Flacco (also an injury), and Brandon Allen, it was time to see what the rookie had in him.

Lock had to recover from a thumb injury he suffered in the preseason. But the wait was worth it. He showed so much promise in his five starts that it left very few people wondering if he was the guy that would lead the team in 2020 and the future.

Five starts is not a big sample size at all, but he showed some really good things, enough to cause the coaching staff to commit to him in 2020. They drafted and brought in some offensive talent to help out the young star, putting more faith in him than some have.

There won’t be a quarterback rotation in 2020 and hopefully for a long time. The team cut Joe Flacco, who they expected to pan out (he didn’t).

They also replaced free agent Brandon Allen with Jeff Driskel, who has played just 12 games and has a 1-7 record as a starting quarterback. Driskel, however, has thrown 10 touchdowns to six interceptions.

While the state of the backup quarterback position could be better, the starting quarterback spot is set.
