Denver Broncos,
Phillip Lindsay has become a fan favorite in Denver.

Phillip Lindsay

Could this really be Phillip Lindsay‘s last season in Denver? It’s possible.

Much of that will depend on the performance of Melvin Gordon, who is under contract for the next two seasons. Lindsay, who is a fan favorite due to his local ties, will have to split the workload with a former first-round pick this season.

Lindsay will be a restricted free agent following the season, giving the Broncos the right to match any offer he may receive. But a team might just throw out a crazy number to pry him away.

A similar situation happened with the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason. Austin Ekeler, a similar player who also has local ties to Colorado, was set to become a restricted free agent and the Chargers made sure no team even had the chance to make him an offer, signing him to a four-year contract extension back in March.

Gordon, the former Chargers back, then came over to Denver and will now work with Lindsay.

If Gordon has the type of talent to where the Broncos can’t afford to have him off the field too often, it’s possible that Lindsay could become expendable and the team could allow him to move on.

As a huge fan favorite, there are a lot of people who hope that doesn’t end up being the case and that, at worst, Lindsay and Gordon each get their chance to shine.
