Tim Patrick, wide receiver

Let’s say for a moment that the Denver Broncos decide to play a little game of ‘seniority’ at wide receiver to open training camp.

If that’s the case, then Tim Patrick — who was last year’s WR2 on the depth chart — could open up camp as the other outside receiver with Courtland Sutton along with first-round pick Jerry Jeudy opening up his rookie season in the slot.

If that happens, we may be more likely to see DaeSean Hamilton cut or traded than we know. We could also see Patrick cut or traded, though.

The Broncos drafted another big, speedy receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft by the name of Tyrie Cleveland who is not proven at the NFL level but enters his professional career with a reputation for being an ace on special teams.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Broncos go for a youth movement at receiver and let Patrick go after some injury struggles both last year and dating back to his college days.

Patrick is a talented player who has progressed since being an undrafted free agent a few years ago, but the Broncos are now quite deep at receiver.

This isn’t an ‘either-or’ proposition of Patrick starting or being cut, but both of those possibilities exist, even if Denver ultimately plans to use KJ Hamler more than either Tim Patrick or DaeSean Hamilton.
