Garett Bolles, offensive tackle

I don’t know that the Denver Broncos are necessarily looking for ways to get rid of Garett Bolles, but maybe they are.

If that were the case, I think a veteran would be on the roster at this point, but that possibility still exists with players like Kelvin Beachum and Jason Peters still available in free agency.

The Broncos declined Bolles’ fifth-year rookie contract option and declared they will have an open competition at left tackle between Bolles and Elijah Wilkinson.

Your former first-round pick would have to perform exceptionally bad to cut before his rookie contract is up, but the Broncos have openly expressed their frustration with Bolles and if his bad habits continue, they may decide to pursue alternatives.

What if Bolles is beaten out by Wilkinson and the Broncos decide they like Calvin Anderson’s upside better as a long-term option?

What if the team signs Jason Peters and prefers Wilkinson’s versatility as a tackle/guard compared to Bolles only being able to play one spot?

There are more ways than one Bolles could find himself off the roster before the 2020 season, even if the smarter bet is on him being the opening day starter at left tackle.
