Jeff Heuerman, tight end

I will admit, this is probably my first real ‘stretch’ of this post, but hear me out.

The Broncos won’t be using nearly as much 12 personnel with Pat Shurmur as their offensive coordinator as they would with Rich Scangarello or any of the coordinators that preceded him, but the tight ends and depth at that position will still play a critical role.

With Noah Fant’s struggles in his rookie season as a blocker and the way the Broncos want to emphasize the running game this year, it’s not impossible to think Jeff Heuerman could maintain his starting position at tight end as the primary blocking option, even with the addition of Nick Vannett in free agency.

There’s also a possibility that Heuerman is cut before the season starts.

The Broncos have strong depth at tight end, and a lot of youth. Heuerman is the ‘elder’ of the group and started 11 games last season while playing in a career-high 14.

Although Noah Fant will certainly out-snap Heuerman in 2020, Heuerman could be a ‘starting’ player for the Broncos with his blocking abilities.

If the team finds it prefers a player like Vannett in that role, Heuerman could also be looking for a new team.
