Drew Lock Madden 20 rating: 68 OVR

This one is a no-brainer. In what universe would a starting quarterback have a rating in the 60s?

Lock showed a ton of promise in the five games that he played in as a rookie in 2019, and deserves a significant boost in overall rating on Madden 21.

Heck, he is even quite a bit better than he was as a rookie.

One of the biggest factors that affect a player’s overall rating is awareness. Lock got to experience things on the field that are important for his development (i.e. making reads, accuracy, etc). That certainly should bump up his awareness rating (which was 71 in Madden 20).

Lock had a 118.8 quarterback rating when throwing deep down the middle of the field (20+ yards). He had a rating of 116.5 when throwing 10 yards on the right side of the field, and 104.2 when throwing between 10 and 20 yards to the left.

Lock has been getting together with some of his receivers this offseason prior to the (scheduled) training camp. He should be able to get plenty of timing down with the pass catchers, which will help chemistry, and ultimately his rating in the game.

Madden 21 rating prediction: 76 OVR

When it comes to ratings in this game, you have to take into account who the starters are to the backups. In this case, Jeff Driskel will backup Lock, and there is no way that Driskel has a rating of 76 or higher. In fact, I bet his rating will be around 65-66 overall.
