In the midst of the kind of news that is currently dominating national headlines, Colin Kaepernick’s name has risen back to the surface.

Since his departure from the league, Kaepernick’s name has been a lightning rod for controversy but the odds of him being signed by a team and coming back to the game seem to be growing by the day.

Many teams in the league are being discussed as potential suitors for the former quarterback who once led the San Francisco 49ers to within one play of winning the Super Bowl. How realistic these suitors are is up for debate, but in the case of the Denver Broncos, it’s clear that the team would greatly improve its backup quarterback position by bringing him in.

Sayre Bedinger nicely explained why the team should sign him and though your political views may not mesh with his, from a football standpoint only, it’s hard to argue that he wouldn’t be an upgrade.

Many of Kaepernick’s detractors love to argue that if he was a good quarterback, he would be on a team.

Not necessarily. The biggest part of the reason he is not in the NFL is that a team doesn’t want to deal with the media hoopla that would follow, quite similar to the way Tim Tebow‘s career ended (spare me the “he can’t throw” stuff).

Kaepernick was not a starter during his entire six-year career and still threw for over 12,000 yards with 72 touchdowns to just 30 interceptions. He added 2,300 yards rushing and 13 more touchdowns.
