LUBBOCK, TEXAS – OCTOBER 19: Safety Douglas Coleman will be trying to make the team as an undrafted free agent. /

The Broncos need more depth at safety behind starters Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson and undrafted free agent Douglas Coleman has a shot to make the team as a result.

That’s because the only other safeties currently on the roster are Trey Marshall, P.J. Locke and Kahani Smith. Marshall is slowing carving out a role for himself on the team and will make the team as a result, but have you even heard of either of those other guys? Probably not.

Logic would dictate that the team keeps four safeties on the roster in order to have adequate depth and Coleman would have as good of a chance to make the team as either Locke or Smith. But as will be the case for any undrafted free agent this summer, will two games be enough to show off what they can do?

It’s hard to imagine that it would be, meaning that a spot on the practice squad might be a more realistic option.

Coleman had eight interceptions last season at Texas Tech and if he can be a ballhawk at the next level, he could become a valuable piece.
