DENVER, CO – AUGUST 29: Juwann Winfree will be entering his second season with the Broncos. /

Juwann Winfree

Recently, I discussed the chances of Juwann Winfree making the team in his second year. Those chances might take a hit with a shortened preseason.

The Broncos have made a lot of changes at the wide receiver position this offseason and as a result, there are at least a few guys who will be guaranteed roster spots. The interesting battles will come down to the last two or three spots, depending on how many the Broncos choose to keep on the final roster.

DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Parick will have the inside track on those slots, but you have to figure in Diontae Spencer, the team’s return specialist, as well.

Where Winfree fits into all of this remains to be seen. He did spend the entire season with the Broncos’ organization last year, but with a new offensive coordinator in Pat Shurmur, he will have just as much to learn as pretty much everyone else this offseason.

Winfree was a sixth-round pick last year who the team saw enough in to use a draft pick on despite many feeling he was an undrafted talent, but with the additions of Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler, the wide receivers toward the bottom of the depth chart have a big hill to climb this summer.

Winfree will have his work cut out for him in order to stick around.
