Denver Broncos roster prediction: Who makes it at inside linebacker?
Who will make the Denver Broncos roster at inside linebacker in 2020?
The Denver Broncos have a young, exciting roster heading into the 2020 season.
Not that cuts are ever easy for teams to make, but cuts are going to be especially difficult for the Broncos in 2020 because of the depth and talented youth they have at a variety of positions.
One position where there will be some nice competition is at inside linebacker, a position group where many Broncos fans have wanted the team to do a little bit more in the past couple of offseasons than they have done.
Todd Davis and Josey Jewell were the projected starters going into last season, which is a big reason many Broncos fans were not on board with the team passing on Michigan linebacker Devin Bush with the 10th overall pick in the draft.
With some of Noah Fant’s early struggles in his rookie season, you had the boo birds calling for John Elway’s head for not drafting Bush early last year.
As time went on, and Bush had rookie struggles of his own, those voices quieted down a bit.
But fans still wanted another or a new inside linebacker. Even with the breakout of Alexander Johnson in 2019, fans wanted a Patrick Queen type of playmaker at the linebacker position, a player with speed, range, instincts, and the ability to cover.
The Broncos have struggled to cover backs and tight ends in recent years, and while they didn’t ultimately land Patrick Queen (not for lack of trying), they’ll head into training camp with a group of linebackers that could be shuffled around a bit come time for the start of the 2020 season.
There is no question about the fact that both Todd Davis and Alexander Johnson will make the 2020 roster, but what about the rest of the depth chart?
