1. Essang Bassey, CB, Wake Forest

The player with arguably the best chance of making the Broncos’ roster among the 2020 undrafted free agent crop is Wake Forest cornerback Essang Bassey.

Bassey has the best combination of both college resumé and positional need on Denver’s current roster.

Bassey played in 48 games in college — a huge plus — and finished with 50 passes defensed. Averaging at least one of those per game is a sign that Bassey has a nose for making plays on the ball.

Bassey has plus athleticism despite his below-average size. Having below-average size is not as big of a deal these days or in the Vic Fangio defense where plenty of zone coverage is played.

Talent evaluators felt like coming out of Wake Forest that Bassey had a skill set ideally suited for the nickel cornerback position, and I think that’s where he would play the majority of his snaps outside of special teams.

Snaps might be hard to come by with some of the other young players on the roster but Bassey has the experience from the collegiate level to transition quickly to the NFL level and potentially make the roster in 2020.
