Denver Broncos: 4 players who could benefit from a short preseason
Garett Bolles
Garett Bolles is the Broncos’ starting left tackle and he will be until further notice. Of course, there are those who believe that Elijah Wilkinson will end up beating him out for that spot this summer.
No way.
Wilkinson is a good guy to have on the bench if needed in a pinch, but despite his problem with penalties, Bolles has for more upside than him. It has been said that the two players will be in an open competition for the left tackle spot this summer.
Let’s suppose that is the case.
Unless the Broncos have a pretty good idea that they want to go with Wilkinson instead, he is not going to convince the team to bench its former first-round pick in a handful of training camp practices and two preseason games.
Bolles may have a tenuous hold on the left tackle position, but he is still the best option this team has. The Broncos have quietly motivated him by announcing there would be competition for the position on top of not selecting a tackle in the draft.
Look for Bolles to come out strong this summer and even if he’s just about the same as the last time we saw him, Wilkinson convincing the team to make him the starter in just two preseason games, in which Bolles may not even play in much, is a tall order.
Which players might be hurt by a shortened preseason?
In addition to those discussed here, I will look at players who could be hampered by only playing two preseason games next time.
