3. Passing on the free agent cornerback class

The Denver Broncos did make a trade for veteran cornerback AJ Bouye, but one potential mistake this team made over the course of the 2020 offseason was passing on the free agent cornerback class altogether.

This year’s free agent cornerback class was headlined by some absolute studs, including Byron Jones, James Bradberry, Trae Waynes, and Kendall Fuller.

Any one of those players could have been an upgrade for the Broncos, even in tandem with Bouye, but the Broncos passed.

Even if you don’t take issue with the Broncos passing on the top tier of free agent cornerbacks, most people thought they would certainly go after a veteran in the second- or third-tier of free agency.

Prince Amukamara was apparently not a lock to go to Denver and wound up signing with the Raiders. Other players like Darqueze Dennard and Logan Ryan are still free agents right now and looking for a place to play in 2020 with the Broncos seemingly satisfied with where they are at.

Given the depth of this year’s free agent cornerback class, it’s interesting that the Broncos decided to pass on literally everyone available, including their own big free agent in Chris Harris Jr.
