Howard Griffith was a ninth-round pick in the 1991 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, but didn’t make his NFL regular season debut until the 1993 season with the Los Angeles Rams.

After two seasons with the Rams, Griffith was selected in the eighth round of the 1995 expansion draft by the Carolina Panthers, the league’s newest franchise at the time.

It was in Carolina where Griffith established himself as a triple-threat from the fullback position — a blocker, receiver, and short-yardage runner.

After two seasons with the Panthers, Griffith became a member of the Denver Broncos where he played a critical role for four seasons as the fullback in Mika Shanahan’s offense.

Although he did a lot for the team in four seasons, Griffith’s claim to fame as a Bronco came in the 1997 playoffs, a road game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Griffith made an outstanding one-handed catch and scored a critical touchdown in the Broncos’ win over the Steelers en route to the Super Bowl.

He was a significant piece of the Broncos’ back-to-back Super Bowl run with 12 total touchdowns including playoff games.
