QB: John Elway

John Elway entered the National Football League with as much fanfare as any player before him and many since then.

Elway was a prodigy; big, strong, mobile, rocket for a right arm, and the desire to win. He led the Broncos to the playoffs during his rookie campaign, only the fourth time in the 24-year existence of the team. The Broncos continued to climb in the AFC, reaching the championship game in 1986 against the Cleveland Browns.

John Elway put the league on notice with a 98-yard drive to score the game-tying touchdown in the final seconds of regulation. This feat was known as, “the Drive”. Since then John Elway played in five Super Bowls with two victories and a Super Bowl MVP.

Though these records have been surpassed, when Elway retired, he finished his NFL career with the most victories started by an NFL quarterback, the second-most touchdowns and yards.
Along with those accomplishments, Elway also finished his career with:

• 1 NFL Most Valuable Player award
• 1992 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award
• 2 Super Bowl championships
• 9 Pro Bowl selections
• inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004

For most of Broncos Country, John Elway is and will always be Mr. Bronco.
