Bryce Callahan

Bryce Callahan was one of the top free-agent signings by the Broncos last season, a move that excited many fans. The Broncos needed another defensive back and to get one that was familiar with the defensive scheme ran by Vic Fangio seemed like a perfect fit.

Too bad Callahan never set foot on the field.

That was because of a nagging foot injury from the prior season that required surgery and then there were complications following the surgery. As a result, he has gone from a guy who seemed like a home run for the Broncos to one surrounded by questions.

Will there be any rust when Callahan is able to get back on the field? Is he still going to be the same player he was pre-surgery?

According to the team, Callahan is fully healthy and ready to go. But no one will be able to judge that for sure until he can get on the field in some competitive situations to see if he has made a full recovery.

Callahan, now 28 years old, has not played in an NFL game since December 9, 2018. That’s a year and a half without football. Though there is optimism that he will fit right in and be effective due to his familiarity with Fangio, there’s just as good of a chance that he won’t and either can’t be effective anymore, or won’t be one of the team’s best three, or four or five options at defensive back.
