Denver Broncos: 4 players with the most to prove in 2020
Drew Lock
Lock is all the rage in Denver and within Broncos fans around the country, but he absolutely has a lot to prove.
Lock was far and away the best quarterback the Broncos had last season, but he produced a small sample size and his detractors will have you believe that over the course of a 16-game season, he would struggle mightily.
Lock looked great in limited action last season with his signature performance coming in a game against the Houston Texans. In that game, he went 22-of-27 passing for 309 yards and three touchdowns. Though he did throw one interception, he finished that game with a quarterback rating of 136.0.
But that was the only game in which he threw for over 300 yards and in fact, he only went over 200 yards one other time.
Lock has been given the keys to the team’s future as there is no other quarterback on the roster that is going to threaten his starting job right now. The Broncos added two wide receivers in the first two rounds of the draft while also signing Melvin Gordon in free agency.
In other words, Lock is left without much of an excuse but to go out and perform at a high level.
Like most teams, the Broncos will go as far as their quarterback is capable of leading them. If he has a big year, he will be “the guy” for several years to come, quieting many critics in the process.
Lock has a lot to prove this year and there should be few who doubt that.
