ESPN sent the Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock in the first round of their four-round 2019 Re-Draft.

In a 2019 re-draft, where literally every player was available (first-year, second-year, 10th-year players), and using the 2020 NFL Draft order through four rounds, Jeff Legwold has selected for the Denver Broncos…

Drew Lock, quarterback, Missouri.

Seems a bit odd, right? In a way, yes. In a way, no.

Here are the picks that were taken before Lock:

1. Bengals: Patrick Mahomes
2. Redskins: Russell Wilson
3. Lions: Lamar Jackson
4. Giants: Deshaun Watson
5. Dolphins: Aaron Donald
6. Chargers: Ronnie Stanley
7. Panthers: Joey Bosa
8. Cardinals: Drew Brees
9. Jaguars: Dak Prescott
10. Browns: Nick Bosa
11. Jets: Carson Wentz
12. Raiders: Aaron Rodgers
13. Colts: Joe Burrow
14. Buccaneers: Tom Brady

Here is where things get more interesting: current players on the Broncos that went to a new team in this draft include:

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Bears (third round).
Von Miller, OLB, Raiders (second round).
Bradley Chubb, OLB, Jets (third round).

Sure, it makes sense in the way that he is a young guy with a lot of potential. But in a draft where there are so many proven players, using the 15th pick on a guy who played five games is questionable, just like the Colts using the 13th pick on a guy who has yet to play a down in the league.

Why Lock at 15 makes sense for the Broncos

Legwold does cite the fact that so many quarterbacks came off the board right off the bat, as well as Lock’s potential, for the reasoning of the selection. Okay, I can respect that thinking.

The other players that Legwold took with his remaining selections were: Travis Kelce, Isaiah Simmons, and Courtland Sutton.

Now the selection of Lock at 15 makes more sense. He would have probably the best tight end in the league, as well as the number one receiver who he is actually teammates with right now in Courtland Sutton.

Just like the Broncos did in real life in 2020, Legwold gave the future some weapons to utilize early on in his career.

The thinking of Lock as a strong quarterback prospect is somewhat all over the place. Some think that, despite his strong performances in limited action, the Broncos have the worst quarterback room in the league.

Ultimately, this is a fun activity that involves reporters of all 32 teams. You never truly know what will happen in terms of who goes where (just like a real-life draft).
