Drew Lock Broncos
DENVER, CO – DECEMBER 29: Drew Lock gained the belief of Broncos Country in his 5 starts last season. /

Drew Lock

The obvious pick is Lock, but he has to be on this list. He is easily a breakout candidate, not just for the Broncos, but perhaps the entire league.

Yes, that is a lot of hype to put on a young guy who made just five starts last year, but it is clear the Broncos believe in this guy. The team used its first two draft picks on wide receivers in April and brought in Melvin Gordon to help boost the offense and give Lock the support he needs to make things happen.

Sure, his five starts are an awfully small sample size, but Broncos fans have been looking for a quarterback that they can get behind since the retirement of Peyton Manning. Lock looks the part and in those five games, he played the part.

Lock threw for 1,020 yards while completing 64 percent of his passes. He had seven touchdowns to just three interceptions and posted an 89.7 quarterback rating. There is nothing in that stat line that jumps off the page, which is why you had to watch the games.

Lock had a command of the offense that was clearly absent during the starts made by Joe Flacco and Brandon Allen. He was cool, calm and collected and on top of that, he was able to improvise and make the kind of plays only the special quarterbacks are able to make.

Lock has the hopes of Broncos Country riding on his shoulders. The team will go as he goes, putting him on a short list of the top breakout candidates across the entire NFL.
