Simon Fletcher
Like Mecklenburg, Fletcher spent his entire 11-year career with the Broncos and was also part of all three of those Super Bowl losses from 1986-1989.
A disruptive defender who had a knack for getting to the quarterback, Fletcher is also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and has stuck around the area following his playing career.
During his career, Fletcher posted 97.5 sacks, a record that stood from 1995 until late 2018 when Von Miller was able to surpass the mark.
A second-round pick in the 1985 draft out of Houston, Fletcher somehow never made a Pro Bowl. Like Mecklenburg, he was severely underrated, but fans who have been following the Broncos for many years know how good he was and how important he was to the organization.
It has been 25 years since Fletcher donned a Broncos uniform and it’s easy to forget what a great player he was, especially since more athletic pass-rushers such as Miller, Bradley Chubb, Elvis Dumervil and several others have been around.
But Fletcher was the team’s original sack master and he certainly deserved to be on the right side of a Super Bowl outcome.
In 11 seasons with the team, Fletcher played in three Super Bowls and four AFC Championship Games. That’s a good deal of success, but it’s also too many close calls. It would have been nice if the team could have found a way to stack up against the New York Giants, Redskins over San Francisco 49ers in one of those games.
