Many fans expected the Denver Broncos to address the tackle position this offseason, but each addition to the offensive line was at another spot.
The team gave guard Graham Glasgow a four-year, $44 million deal in free agency. They then drafted center Lloyd Cushenberry in the third round before selecting another guard, Netane Muti, a player most consider to be a steal, in the sixth round.
The Broncos are sure to have a much different offensive line in 2020, even if the plan appears to be to have Garett Bolles and Ja’Wuan James at the tackle spots. But as is the case with any good team, a solid rotation behind the starters is absolutely necessary.
Many teams like to keep at least eight offensive linemen on the active roster and some will go with nine or 10. Typically, coaches prefer to have versatile guys who can slide in at almost any position should one of the starters struggle or go down with an injury.
Currently, the Broncos have a total of 15 offensive linemen on the roster. Before the season starts, that number will likely be cut in half, though at least a couple of these players will likely be stashed on the team’s practice squad.
How many offensive linemen will the Broncos keep? Which guys will end up being the reserve offensive linemen? Before we answer that question, we need to determine who the starters are going to be.
