Denver Broncos: 4 veterans who will enter training camp squarely on roster bubble
Isaac Yiadom
Some may disagree that Isaac Yiadom is on the roster bubble, but how can he not be? He just hasn’t been very good in his young career and just because you were a high pick two years ago does not guarantee a roster spot.
The Broncos have A.J. Bouye, Bryce Callahan and third-round pick Michael Ojemudia set to play significant time at cornerback in 2020. De’Vante Bausby will be back looking to regain his form before a scary injury ended his season last year.
That leaves Yiadom as possibly the No. 5 corner on the team, but the Broncos still have Davontae Harris and Duke Dawson, two guys who could easily push Yiadom. We shouldn’t sleep on undrafted free agent Essang Bassey either.
In his first two seasons in the league, Yiadom has 63 tackles, seven pass deflections and one interception. But when you watch him out there, and you focus solely on him, it’s clear he looks lost in coverage far too often.
He has seemingly lost many of the traits that made him a solid college player at Boston College and even traits he had in his rookie season. Did he struggle in his first year in Vic Fangio’s defensive scheme? Can he learn to regain some of the tendencies to keep him on the field? Or, is he just an average-at-best player at this point?
Names like Harris and Dawson are certainly not intimidating if you’re Yiadom and you’re looking to keep your job. But this summer is one in which he absolutely has something to prove.
How many of these guys get cut?
It’s conceivable to believe that each of these guys could end up being cut. It’s also conceivable that each of them could make the initial roster. I would be willing to bet that at the very least, one of them won’t be on the team when Week 1 rolls around.
