The Denver Broncos were scheduled to have joint practices with the Bears before their week 2 preseason game. That will not be the case anymore.

So much for the Denver Broncos meeting up with the Chicago Bears for preseason joint practices.

According to Mike Klis, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to every NFL franchise, stating that joint practices are called off for the 2020 season.

For the health of the players, as well as coaching staff and anybody else who would have been involved in the joint practice, this is good. With COVID-19 still being an issue across the world, it is always going to be important to make sure everybody is as safe as they can be.

If that means that schedules for the NFL and its teams are compromised, so be it.

It really is disappointing, though. Like I have said in a previous article (about the Broncos-Bears joint practice), practicing against another team is very helpful and it keeps minds fresh and focused. They would not be having to hit their own teammates. After all, teams do not earn victories by practicing against themselves.

If training camp and preseason start on time, the Broncos are now scheduled to practice against each other. I don’t like it, but it is way more important to take precautions.

More questions about the 2020 season

Now the question becomes, “when will the NFL allow training camps to begin?” and “will the NFL season start on time?”

The NFL has discussed playing games without fans in attendance for at least a portion of the 2020 season. For every team—except maybe the Chargers—this would really suck. Fans bring the energy to the games.

Having been to a number of Broncos games in the past, I can tell you that the absence of fans for games would absolutely suck. The atmosphere is just so important and not having fans would definitely take away from the game.
