Denver Broncos: Bold predictions for 2020 rookie class
Lloyd Cushenberry starts all 16 games as a rookie
Lloyd Cushenberry was also selected in the third round and many considered that a steal. He will be the Broncos’ starting center in Week 1 and if all goes well, he could be the next great center for the team, following in the footsteps of Tom Nalen.
That might not sound like a very bold prediction to many fans out there, but there are some Patrick Morris supporters who feel that he could at least keep the seat warm while Cushenberry gets ready.
Cushenberry is a very pro-ready center. He comes out of LSU, home of the defending national champions.
Cushenberry is going to be a more athletic option than Morris and he will always be prepared and ready to go, making it tough to take the job from him. Preparedness is one of Cushenberry’s best traits and as a guy who basically taught himself how to play center (he was a tackle in high school and was recruited as one), it’s tough to count him out.
Of course, he doesn’t have any NFL playing experience but it isn’t like Morris has played in a ton of games. Many fans will point to the idea that Mike Munchak is a big supporter of Morris, but he will likely be an even bigger supporter of Cushenberry when he gets a chance to work with him more.
After losing Connor McGovern to free agency, it was questionable as to what the Broncos would do at the center position and it looked as though they may “settle” on Morris. But Cushenberry falling to the team was one of the biggest bright spots of the Broncos’ draft and his talent will not be wasted.
