Kendall Hinton was one of two undrafted wide receivers to be signed by the Denver Broncos following the draft.

The Broncos certainly did their due diligence while scouting at Wake Forest. In addition to Hinton, the team also signed undrafted defensive back Essang Bassey and drafted linebacker Justin Strnad in the fifth round, all of whom played for the Demon Deacons.

Hinton is a 6-foot, 195-pound wide receiver who Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had a draftable grade on.

Hinton began his playing career as a quarterback but was moved to wide receiver for his senior season. During his senior year, he caught 73 passes for 1,001 yards and four touchdowns, very solid numbers for a former quarterback.

Though a quarterback for much of his college career, Hinton actually appears to be a solid wide receiver prospect. He has good ball skills, solid athleticism and can make plays with the ball in his hands.

As a quarterback, he threw for 1,504 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, but he completed just 53 percent of his passes. Converting him to wide receiver was the right move.

Though wide receiver does appear to be the right position for Hinton, he doesn’t have much experience doing it. He will need to work on his route-running and prove that he can get separation in order to have any kind of success as a professional.

Because of his inexperience, Hinton will face long odds to make the team. There is also the fact that the Broncos drafted three wide receivers and have a few holdovers from last season such as Fred Brown, Kelvin McKnight and Trinity Benson, players who already know the system.

There will be many players for Hinton to get past in the pecking order, probably too many.

But he will be an interesting player to watch and if he can earn a spot on the practice squad, he could slowly develop into a player the team could use someday. With his background as a quarterback, he could become a player like Antwaan Randle El was for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

That may sound like a bit of a stretch, but there is the athletic ability and past playing experience for a coaching staff to work with in this player.
