Sam Martin, Punter

Not surprisingly, the Denver Broncos’ signing of punter Sam Martin has been pretty unceremonious.

Punters don’t get a lot of credit if they’re doing their job well, but there is an undeniable difference between good punting and poor punting in the NFL. The Broncos have experienced far too much of the latter in recent years.

Colby Wadman, though talented, shanked way too many punts in his time with the Broncos. The team has struggled to find consistency at the punter spot since the 2015 season when Britton Colquitt was a huge weapon during the playoff and Super Bowl run.

The Broncos have cycled through Riley Dixon, Marquette King, and now Colby Wadman since that run, and no one has been able to stick.

Martin has a lot of experience in the NFL and flipping the field is going to be crucial to give the Broncos every advantage possible. Having a consistent punter can be the difference in winning or losing the field position battle, which can lead to your team losing more games than they otherwise should.

This Denver Broncos defense is strong in the pass rush department, and having a good punter to pin offenses deep in their own territory is a great complement to a strong pass rush.
