Denver Broncos: Three teams that could be interested in trading for Royce Freeman
Royce Freeman will be entering his third year with the Denver Broncos, but because of other weapons on the roster, he could be made expendable.
When the Broncos signed Melvin Gordon as a free agent this offseason, talk immediately shifted to Phillip Lindsay and how the move might make him feel. But there wasn’t much talk about how it might impact Royce Freeman’s spot on the roster.
Lindsay is going to be fine. He’s still going to be part of the regular rotation. For Freeman, his workload will likely see a serious decrease.
Freeman was a third-round pick in 2018 and Lindsay signed as an undrafted free agent that same year. Though they pretty much split the workload right down the middle last season, Lindsay has surpassed Freeman in pretty much every way to this point in their careers.
Basically, he’s just been the more effective player.
Gordon will come in and be the team’s primary option in the backfield and he and Lindsay should make a terrific combination.
So what do the Broncos do with Freeman? Should they just keep him around for extra insurance? Do they actually have plans to use him productively on offense? Or, should moving him for an asset such as a future draft pick or a player at a position of need?
There are some teams strapped for options at running back who might be willing to hand over such an asset for Freeman, who is still only 24 years old.
This is not to say that Freeman is on the trade market or that a trade is even likely. But if the Broncos were to be interested in moving him, these three teams could be worth talking to.
